Is weighing scale the right way to monitor your health?

October 29, 2018

scale

Nowadays, Everyone want quick results and when they don’t see the scale moving, they get discouraged, even when they can feel the improvement. Judging your progress with numbers is not a good habit and nothing happens overnight or in a few days. Remember the weight often comes back with the speed it was lost and that is more disheartening.

Dexascan is a way to track your actual progress.

Weight can be good or bad, so you should only lose bad weight (i.e. excess stored fats) instead of water or muscles. Our body’s 65% composition is just water, so losing even small part of it can also contribute to weight loss (You should only lose water in case if you have water retention in your body). The probability is the weight we lost in a few days can be just water. This happens when we increase the intake of insoluble fibre in our diet, this fibre no doubt burns some calories but it mostly absorbs a lot a water from our gut and eliminates from our body without getting digested. The weight lost through this will bounce back for sure, and it will surely make you happy just for a few days.  On the other hand, when we incorporate strength training in our routine with proper diet, it helps in muscle growth, which in course of time consumes the fat around it. The muscle growth shows some rise in the scale, which is a healthy sign, although it may take some time, fat loss through this will not come back soon and the perk is you do not need to starve and you will be stronger and active with the good muscles. (check out the perks of muscles in my previous post).

With almost similar weight and with good muscles, they are stronger, healthier and younger. Moreover, she can now consume double calories as her body requires more calories with increased metabolism.

You should understand that just weight loss is not the part of a fitness program, it consists of different phases of losing and gaining weight. So, stop checking scale and concentrate on progress, as hard work always pays off. Believe in how you feel from inside and how much strength you feel, losing weight by ignoring your health will build up more complications for you and you will only be left with a dehydrated body, saggy skin and dark under the eye. I believe in slow and long-lasting results which are natural and beneficial for overall health and that is what I suggest my clients; cherishing the nutritious food your mother made with love is one of the rare pleasure.

Health cannot be measured on a scale. If you keep relying on BMI (Body Mass Index), it overlooks so many parameters, like it is only based on weight and height, it doesn’t consider gender, age, muscle mass, bone density, fat ratio. Thus, the information provided by BMI is incomplete.

fat v/s muscle
A muscle with the same weight is four folds denser than fat.

If you really want the true picture of your body composition and want to get the bigger detailed picture of your body composition. There is the latest technology emerging called Dexa Scan.  It provides an actual, more accurate and detailed information about the distribution of fat, muscles and bones and it even tells the exact location of fat distribution, which is extremely useful for tracking visceral fat(fat around your organs, which is more harmful and can cause many health conditions including heart and liver complications).

Dexascan will not only help you track your fitness journey but will also give you a detailed information about how healthy your organs and muscle are; it let you know your bone density and visceral fat amount. You can track the nearby Dexascan centre in your place by visiting their site www.dexascan.com and book your Dexascan now.
